About Straightening
Thermal Reconditioning is a term given to the most recent form of chemical straightening. It also goes by the names: Magic Straight, Straight Perm, Japanese Straightening, Thermal Straightening, and Japanese Thermal Reconditioning. The use of an iron between the processing and neutralizing steps is what gives it the term "Thermal" and the label "Japanese", since the technique was first patented in Japan.
A person needs to have at least 2-4 inches of hair, minimum, to be a good candidate. A person needs to have at least 4-5 inches of hair, minimum, to be a GREAT candidate. There will be grow-out with this process that will need to be maintained. You will leave the salon with up to 1/2 inch of grow-out.
This is not a "no-maintenance" service. There may come a time when you are no longer wanting straight hair, and you will need to consider how you will go about growing it out, and if it's worth it to you to straighten it in the first place. There are several things you will need to know about this service that will allow you to have realistic expectations of your newly straightened hair.
